Geology Division

The division is composed of these sections:

1. Geological Survey Section

Undertake systematic examination of any region in the Philippines for geologic information by conducting geological reconnaissance, geologic mapping, section measurement and description in the field with more emphasis in Plio-Pleistocene geology on the younger sediments. It also undertakes study which deals with the forms of the earth, the general configuration of the surface and the changes that takes place in the evaluation of land forms (Geomorphology). 2. Paleontology Section

Undertakes research and studies on plants and animal fossils of past geologic period whose remains or traces are preserved in different kinds of rocks and also the associated faunas and floras that have lived in the past. 3. Petrology Section

Undertakes research and studies by all available methods of natural history of rocks including their origins, present conditions alteration and decay. Petrology comprises petrography on the one hand and petrogenesis in the other and properly considered its subject matter includes are deposits and mineral deposits in general.
